Osborne ‘wants May chopped up in freezer’

- By Claire Ellicott Political Correspondent

GEORGE Osborne allegedly told colleagues he would not rest until Theresa May was ‘chopped up in bags in my freezer’.

Mr Osborne, who was sacked by Mrs May but now edits the London Evening Standard, made the comment to ‘more than one person’ at the paper, Esquire magazine reported.

In a profile of the former chancellor, it said: ‘According to one staffer at the newspaper, Osborne has told more than one person that he will not rest until she “is chopped up in bags in my freezer”.’

The profile also highlighted how Mr Osborne has overseen a series of scathing front pages about Mrs May. Mr Osborne did not comment on the interview yesterday, but MPs from all parties criticised his alleged comments.

Tory Maria Miller, head of the women and equalities committee, said; ‘We need to debate with facts not vile personal abuse.’

Labour’s Chris Bryant accused Mr Osborne of using ‘misogynistic language’. He said: ‘I think the words of George Osborne about the Prime Minister are absolutely disgraceful.

‘He should apologise and withdraw. It’s that kind of language, which I think is misogynistic in its basis, that needs to be done away with.’

Tory MP Nadine Dorries, who has previously clashed with Mr Osborne and his ally David Cameron, said the piece was ‘a brief insight into how his mind works – and always has’.

When asked about the remarks following Prime Minister’s Questions, Mrs May’s spokesman said: ‘The contents of the (former) chancellor’s freezer are not a matter for me.’

Mr Osborne has said previously that the Prime Minister is a ‘dead woman walking’ and has been unapologetic about his newspaper’s anti-Government stance.
