Alex is on the fast track to successs
THe going might be tough, but alex Robinson is looking forward to starting his career as a solicitor.
The pace is challenging because the 27-year-old opted for an accelerated legal Practice Course (lPC) with The University of law (Ulaw). alex is based at Ulaw’s Moorgate site in london while he completes his fast-track course, finishing in January.
after gaining a 2.1 in english literature at the University of Reading, alex completed a graduate Diploma in law (gDl) with The University of law in Birmingham last year.
He says: ‘i chose the accelerated version of the course because i’ve been offered a training contract with Hedges law, starting in January 2018. So this was the most time efficient way of completing the lPC in time to begin my training.
‘i value that while it is filling in gaps in my knowledge, it is helping me understand better how solicitors work in practice and why they do the things they do.
‘as i am on an accelerated version of the course, it is very intense. So whereas students might have a week in between two workshops, on the accelerated course workshops can take place in subsequent days.
‘However, despite the intensity, the fact that the course lasts only six months means that i can keep up the tempo because i know i’ll have completed my studies by January 2018.’
Once the course is over, alex will immediately start his training contract at Hedges law in the new Year, going into their dispute resolution, commercial property, and corporate commercial departments.
‘Obtaining a training contract has taken planning and effort, so my current energies are focused mainly on qualification,’ he says.
‘My initial impression of Hedges law is that the firm has a great atmosphere and attitude towards training, factors i consider important at the early stages of my legal career.
‘i am looking forward to my career as a solicitor with the firm, and i would definitely recommend Ulaw to others.
‘The lecturers strike a good balance between teaching to prepare students for the exams and teaching to prepare future legal professionals for general practice. These factors are particularly important in the accelerated lPC course as the workload is heavy.’
