Pochettino hails two-goal Harry as one of world’s best strikers

-

MAURICIO POCHETTINO hailed Harry Kane as one of the world’s best strikers as Tottenham exorcised their Wembley hoodoo. The England striker scored two and assisted Son Heung-min’s opener as Spurs finally won at their temporary home with a vital 3-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund. Kane has spoken about his determination to become a regular Champions League goalscorer as he looks to cement his position as one of the planet’s best players. And Pochettino (right) said: ‘He is fantastic, you saw that today. To score goals in the Champions League means he will get the credit he deserves. He is one of the best strikers in the world. The Champions League is one of the most important competitions in the world.’ On ending Tottenham’s Wembley curse, Pochettino added: ‘I hope it will stop people talking about a hoodoo. It’s fantastic not only because of three points. I hope it will start to stop the things that are around the team.’ After seeing last season’s Champions League campaign stymied by two home losses at Wembley, Pochettino was delighted. ‘It’s a massive start for us. To start in that way, to get three points. ‘It’s massive for our confidence.’ Pochettino also insists Jan Vertonghen did not deserve his second yellow card for appearing to catch Mario Gotze with an elbow, saying the contact was accidental. ‘I think it was not the intention of Jan, he told us,’ added Pochettino. ‘But his performance was very good and it’s a shame he received that second yellow card.’
