IT graduates walk into the best-paid jobs
COMPUteR scientists have now become the highest- earning graduates in the country – landing first jobs paying more than £40,000.
those who studied the subject at Oxford University are the best paid of all, walking into positions with average salaries of £45,000. At the other end of the scale, art and drama students have emerged as the lowest earners – with graduate salaries as low as £13,000.
Last year geologists at Imperial College London topped the league table with an average wage of £73,267. Computer studies courses made up five of the top ten highest-earning degrees – alongside economics, business studies and engineering.
Many computer scientists are being recruited by technology giants like Amazon and Google, along with top banks.
Oxford maths and computer science graduate tomas Janerle, 24, said it was ‘super-easy’ to find a well-paid job.
the Facebook worker said those with computer studies degrees could start on £60,000 a year.
the sunday times league table also revealed art and psychology degrees had the lowest job prospects for graduates as student debt is now £50,000 on average.
Drama, dance and cinematics graduates from st Mary’s University, twickenham, had the lowest average salary of £12,000, while Liverpool Hope art and design graduates earn £13,000.
the Government is understood to be looking at cutting fees for some arts courses to £7,500 a year, the paper claims.
