CHAMPIONSHIP

THIS WEEKEND

- ADAM SHERGOLD

IT’S NEVER SAY N’DIAYE

It was all hail King alfred the Great as wolves kept up with pace- setters Leeds and Cardiff thanks to a dramatic 2-1 win over Barnsley. the Molineux clock read 92 minutes 55 seconds when alfred N’Diaye (right) slid home the winner, after Barnsley’s adam Jackson had cancelled out Bright Enobakhare’s opener. wolves boss Nuno Espirito santo said: ‘I told him to go out and help the team — and it was a great response.’

VILLA’S WAKE-UP CALL

DOZY Nottingham Forest started the second half at Aston Villa with only 10 men as Liam Bridcutt came out late. But there’s been something sleep-inducing in Villa’s half-time oranges this season, with six of their 10 goals conceded coming between minutes 45 and 60. It was no surprise, then, to see Forest’s Daryl Murphy level in the 52nd minute, though Villa did wake from their slumber to win 2-1.

SUPER SUBS DAZZLE

Gary rOwEtt and Lee Carsley could both take credit for inspired substitutions as Derby and Birmingham shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Blues caretaker boss Carsley brought on Lukas Jutkiewicz in the 63rd minute and saw him score with his first touch in the 64th. In response, rowett sent on sam winnall in the 66th minute and he equalised a minute later. ‘I’ve never seen that before,’ said Carsley. rowett joked: ‘I’m claiming a desperate substitution!’

PARKINSON FEARS WORST

WORRYING times for Bolton, who have not tasted victory in nine league matches this season and haven’t even scored in 566 minutes. Furious fans called for the head of manager Phil Parkinson after a sorry 3-0 home defeat by Brentford and six games without finding the net is an unwanted club record. ‘Have we got enough quality to stay up? At the moment it would appear not,’ Parkinson admitted.
