ReaDINg the review (Books) of ma’am Darling: 99 glimpses of Princess margaret, I searched in vain for a bright glimpse of her life.

I was born in 1930, the same year as the Princess. During that decade and the war years, both Princess elizabeth and her sister margaret were highly regarded.

Where are the glimpses of Princess margaret joining her sister outside the Palace in celebration of Ve day? or riding carefree on the pillion of Tony armstrong-Jones’s motorbike?

She enjoyed water-skiing at Iken in Suffolk, and I know did not stand on ceremony in her wetsuit!

on her journey to Suffolk, she travelled by train to Ipswich then in

her host’s car to Sternfield ( admittedly with a police escort). If, on her return, the train was late, she browsed the books and magazines at the bookstall in the station foyer with other passengers.
