DEVILISH DRAMA Lucifer, Amazon Prime THIS U.S. series starring Tom Ellis as the Devil is half odd-couple detective drama and half celestial family drama, and the way it doesn’t take itself seriously is tremendously refreshing. At the start of season three, Lucifer has his wings back, but why? A new episode arrives every Tuesday. GRUELLING REPORT City Of Ghosts, Sky Store/Virgin Movies THIS important but incredibly hardto-watch film records how brave souls living under ISIS in Syria have documented its atrocities. FILM ROMANCE A United Kingdom, 6pm, Sky Premiere ROSAMUND PIKE stars as the English office worker who marries an African prince (David Oyelowo, pictured with Pike) in this moving, fact-based drama. Politics and Empire conspire to keep them apart. THE TROTTERS The Story Of Only Fools And Horses, 8pm, Gold ONE astonishing fact jumps out of this family-focused episode: Radatrained stage veteran Lennard Pearce (Grandad) shook hands with Hitler in the Thirties. ‘Had I known then what I know now,’ he reflected to Nicholas Lyndhurst, ‘I would have done my best to kill him.’ MOVIE ANIMATION Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, 8pm, E4 THE further adventures of prehistoric pals Manny, Diego and Sid sees mammoth Manny nervously anticipating fatherhood. POP POETS Sex, Chips and Poetry: 50 Years of the Mersey Sound, 9pm, BBC4 THIS lively new film focuses not on the sound of The Beatles, but on the poetry anthology The Mersey Sound, an accessible Liverpool twist on U.S. beat poetry that has been in print for 50 years. Two of its authors, Roger McGough and Brian Patten (pictured), are among the contributors. MOCK DOCUMENTARY Alan Partridge: Welcome To The Places Of My Life, 9pm, Sky Atlantic THE damaged DJ’s travelogue of Norfolk (‘the Wales of the east’) features an astonishing number of finely tuned gags. The pace does relax after the first ten minutes, but this is rarely less than very funny. ON THE CASE Murder In The First, 9pm, Fox TERRY and Hildy clearly love each other, but do they love their jobs more? The detectives are asked to choose between the two in this new episode, and the subtle drama that then plays out between them is what gives this U.S. drama its edge. NYC NETHERWORLD The Deuce, 10pm, Sky Atlantic PART two of David Simon’s matterof-fact Seventies NYC drama pushes away from prostitution and into crime, as Vincent (James Franco) makes a proposition to the mob. The highlight, still, is Maggie Gyllenhaal as sex worker Candy; she makes silences speak volumes.
