ROMAN INTRIGUE Suburra: The Series, Netflix

CLASSY new crime thriller set in Rome, in the space where organised crime, the Church and the state all clash. It’s a prequel to the novel Suburra, of which there is a film (also available on Netflix), and this ten-part season is set over 20 days.

FOR THE RECORD How To Make It In The Music Business, 9pm, BBC4

PRODUCER and Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers, always a memorable contributo­r to BBC4 music shows, is given this new series to reflect on his career and to show off his skills. There are some good stories, such as the time he sneaked into a studio to record Chic’s first hit.

VOCAL SHOWDOWN Sing: Ultimate A Cappella, 9pm, Sky 1

SKY’S glamorous singing contest is hosted by Cat Deeley and has a lofty goal: the winning a cappella group will release a Christmas single, just like on The X Factor. All the groups are easy on the ear, and some — such as Elle & The Pocket Belles (pictured) — swing intriguing­ly between genres.

BELATED SEQUEL T2: Trainspott­ing, 10pm, Sky Premiere

JONNY LEE MILLER, Ewan McGregor and Ewen Bremner return as the misguided friends — older, but little wiser. Twenty-one years after Danny Boyle’s blistering original, his follow-up doesn’t disappoint.
