SUPPLIERS HALT DELIVERIES TO BRITISH TOYS R US STORES

TOY suppliers have halted deliveries to the UK arm of Toys R Us in the run up to Christmas amid fears over its parent company’s financial struggles.

Doll’s house maker Worlds Apart – which makes Disney Frozen furniture under licence – and nursery furniture maker Tutti Bambini have both pulled supplies.

Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy protection in the US last month as it battles £3.8bn of debt, but continues to operate and got permission to borrow around £2.3bn to pay suppliers so it could stock up for Christmas. The retailer’s operations outside of the US and Canada, including about 255 licensed stores and joint venture partnerships in Asia, which are separate entities, are not part of the bankruptcy filing.

A Toys R Us spokesman confirmed that Worlds Apart and Tutti Bambini were ‘part of a small number of vendors currently not supplying us’.

She added: ‘The overwhelming majority of our vendors are back online and shipping and we continue to work through the small number of others to ensure that our customers can shop with confidence.’
