As Coleen soaks up the sun, Wayne takes his punishment
IN a glittering football career, he hasn’t been used to spending time on the bench.
But that was what Wayne Rooney did yesterday, setting to work with a paintbrush as part of his punishment for being caught drink-driving in the car of a woman he had met in a bar.
Rooney, who turned 32 on Tuesday, was driven to a community centre in Macclesfield at 9.30am to paint park benches.
Meanwhile, his wife Coleen and their three sons are on the beach in Barbados. An onlooker said: ‘Wayne looked really miserable and shrugged when a staff member tried to talk to him. The guy was shovelling mud into a wheelbarrow. He walked straight past without stopping.’
Rooney, wearing a maroon tracksuit and white trainers, could probably have done with a lie-in during a week to forget. He spent his birthday on a train to London with his Everton team-mates.
The following night they lost 2-1 to Chelsea and Rooney did not get back to his £6million Cheshire home until the small hours yesterday. But he had to be up early to carry out his punishment.
Pregnant Coleen has not worn her wedding ring since his arrest. She sent a birthday message from Barbados – but made clear it was from sons Kai, Klay and Kit.
