Comic can’t keep his hand off Claire’s knee... but she says: I’m not offended
‘No social awareness’
ACTRESS Claire Foy has defended Hollywood star Adam Sandler after he was accused of inappropriately touching her leg on a chat show.
The Crown star insisted Sandler had ‘caused no offence’ by twice touching her knee on Friday’s Graham Norton Show on BBC1.
As Sandler, a married father-oftwo, patted her leg, Miss Foy appeared to be fidgeting awkwardly before nervously trying to move his hand away.
Fellow guest Emma Thompson also glared at the gesture.
However, last night a spokesman for Miss Foy, 33, who plays the Queen as a young woman in the hit Netflix drama, said she was not offended by him.
She said: ‘We don’t believe any- thing was intended by Adam’s gesture and it has caused no offence to Claire.’ A representative for Sandler, 51, said the actor’s behaviour while he told an anecdote had been ‘blown out of proportion’.
However, several surprised viewers commented on the incident on social media.
One wrote: ‘Adam Sandler has no social awareness of how awkward he seemed to be making Emma Thompson and Claire Foy.’
Another wrote: ‘Adam Sandler touching Claire Foy’s knee for no reason, she puts his hand back, he then does it again, she looks rightly p***** off.’
It comes after dozens of women have spoken about sexual harassment and assault in all areas of public life, sparked by the string of allegations against shamed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
