THIS IS WHAT 52 LOOKS LIKE

SKINCARE SWITCH-UP

I’VE been obsessed with skincare ever since I worked at a Lancome beauty counter when I was a teenager. I used to stick to just one brand of moisturiser and serum, in order to get the full benefit of the ingredients. But these days, I’ve learned to be more adventurous when it comes to trying new products. I find that as my skin gets used to something, it’s much less effective over the long-term. It always pays to mix it up!

ADVICE FROM THE YOUNG

OUR hair is such a giveaway of age — so be sure to stay on trend. My top tip? Get a younger hairdresser! I now always get mine cut by one of my daughter’s friends and it’s genuinely made such a difference. She recommended swapping my highlights for a new ombre dye, where the colour fades from dark roots to lighter ends. It is a lot softer and has really freshened up my look.

BRAVE BOXING

I HAVE never been sporty, but it is certainly a lot harder to stay in shape past 50. I now go to a weekly boxercise class. The exercise is great for busting bingo wings and toning the upper body. Plus, boxing is fabulous stress relief in itself. The trick is to go to a female-only class as it’s so much more supportive

and sociable — especially if you bring a friend with you.

TAILOR YOUR TRENDS

I LOVE to experiment with make-up and often go to my local department store for help re-creating the latest look. However, it’s also important to know your limits. For example, I’ve tried out several bold lipsticks, but they look very ageing. So, no matter the fashion, I stick to a paler, nude lip, to match and complement my natural skin tone.

FEARLESS FASHION

WHEN you have daughters in their 20s, you’re not allowed to age gracefully! I buy, and share, clothes from ‘young’ brands, such as Topshop, Mango, Zara, Miss Selfridge and River Island. It’s taught me not to be intimidated — fashion is for everyone. Try shopping online.
