Snuggle down in real comfort

-

COLDER nights might make you want to go to bed earlier and stay there for longer. However, this only works if your bed is warm, cosy and comfortable.

Around half of the population suffers sleepless nights because of the cold.

The answer is to wear warm night clothes and soft bed socks to help improve circulation to the extremities, so that you are not woken up by the cold.

And use a duvet with a high tog rating — or several layers of bedding. Above all, avoid a saggy mattress.

If yours is more than seven years old, it might well need changing for a new one.

Beds with adjustable neck, foot, head and leg rests are now readily available — good for anyone who has to spend a lot of time in bed or who has high blood pressure or rheumatism.

Snuggle in bed to read or watch TV with full support from the raised headrest — winter nights sorted!

A recliner chair could also provide a snug spot to retreat to, safe from winter’s chills. Using a comfy riser-recliner chair can certainly be more dignified than trying to get up or down by swinging yourself on the arms or asking someone to help you up, risking their back.

By rising and tilting forward gently, a riser-recliner chair helps you to sit or stand up much more easily, restoring independence and confidence.

Some have a built-in massage and heat package, that can help to relieve joint pain.

And chairs with a high leg lift take your feet six inches above the level of your hips, providing relief to the joints and improving the circulation.

Swelling can be reduced in the ankle and foot joints, as well as those in the back, neck, hips and knees.

Joint pain affects people differently. Some might experience mild stiffness while others have severe pain.

Simple lifestyle changes are usually recommended to ease conditions such as arthritis, and a recliner chair is an affordable way to make a big difference to your comfort at home.
