Just in time for Secret Santa... Tiffany’s £9,000 ball of string and £1,000 tin can

SHINY, small and oh so stylish, these gifts appear to be perfect as stocking fillers or Secret Santa presents.

But there’s one thing that’s not so cute about these little offerings – the price. Jewellers Tiffany & Co has released a collection titled Everyday Objects aiming to turn ‘utilitarian items into handcrafted works of art’.

The gifts include a sterling silver £8,475 ball of yarn, a £945 silver tin can and a £540 silver ‘paper’ cup.

The company is further offering a £400 silver protractor and a £565 first aid box. Its American site is also selling a pair of table tennis bats for £495 and a £1,150 set of walnut and silver ‘building blocks’.

Exchanging ‘Secret Santa’ presents involves all the members of, for instance, a family or office team being given the name of another member of their party, who they must then buy a small present for anonymously.

Tiffany & Co’s more orthodox jewellery range boasts rings worth more than £1million and necklaces costing more than £2million.

But the firm’s chief artistic officer, Reed Krakoff, said: ‘[This collection] ction] incorporates the best quality, craftsmanship and design with a level evel of functionality that allows you to use these things every day.’

However, the items have left many unimpressed.

One customer in America jokingly said: ‘If you have an extra $9,000 lying around and you choose to spend it on a Tiffany’s ball of yarn, you’re going ing to hell.’
