CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND
HOW DID MAUPAY MISS?
With cameras recording every kick from every angle and social media ubiquitous, there’s no hiding place in the modern game. So spare a thought for Brentford’s Neal Maupay (right), whose astonishing miss of an open goal from seven yards in a 2-0 defeat by Cardiff went viral on Saturday. Even better was Cardiff manager Neil Warnock’s blunt analysis: ‘i have no sympathy at all, he’s tried to be clever and give someone the eye rather than put it in.’
RUTHLESS VYDRA
WHEN Derby’s Tom Lawrence found Matej Vydra in space inside the Fulham penalty box, there was no way the Czech was going to pass up the chance. Vydra has scored seven league goals this season from just nine shots on target. The 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage kept the Rams in the play-off race. Pre-season promotion favourites Fulham have won just once at home all season.
BARNES IS TEEN WONDER
BARNSLEY manager Paul heckingbottom performed a masterstroke back in the summer by taking leicester midfielder harvey Barnes on loan for the season. the 19-year-old was named the club’s player of the month for October and he made it three goals and two assists in his last four games with the equaliser at Norwich. Daniel Farke’s Canaries, who led through Josh Murphy early on, were booed off as they dropped points again. this draw followed three straight defeats.
SLUTSKY MAKING PEACE
HULL manager Leonid Slutsky presented BBC Radio Humberside commentator David Burns with a rosy-faced Russian doll after the 2-2 draw with Ipswich. Slutsky has apparently told Hull’s owners, the Allam family, that ‘peace is better than war’ ahead of talks with the supporters’ trust. Hull fans on Twitter asked whether the dolls could play in defence after Jordan Spence’s late equaliser.
