Fork handles script for sale
A SLICE of comedy history will be up for grabs when The Two Ronnies’ original ‘fork handles’ script goes under the hammer.
Penned by Ronnie Barker the single sheet, handwritten in red ink, is expected to fetch up to £40,000. The famous sketch uses wordplay to hilarious effect when Barker asks hardware shopkeeper Ronnie Corbett for fork handles and is repeatedly offered four candles.
First broadcast in 1976, it has been immortalised by a pub named The Four Candles in Barker’s home town of Oxford.
Four candles also featured at services for both Barker, who died in 2005, and Corbett after his death last year. The script is being sold by Hansons Auctioneers on December 20.
