Death crash trucker who was looking at porn jailed
A LORRY driver has been jailed for eight years for killing a man by smashing into his vehicle while watching pornography on his mobile phone.
Felix Gillon was found guilty of causing the death of Kerry Pemberton by dangerous driving at Leicester Crown Court.
Gillon, 56, had looked up ‘porn star candy love’ just four minutes before the collision on the M69. Another 25 webpages were accessed just after the crash on May 3 last year.
He hit 55-year-old grandfather Mr Pemberton’s brokendown lorry on the hard shoulder, pinning him against a safety barrier. Gillon threw his phone away to destroy the evidence but was recovered by police.
Sentencing him yesterday, the judge Mr Justice Haddon-Cave, said: ‘You told a series of lies to seek to cover your tracks but the jury saw through it all.
‘You have privately expressed remorse but it would have been better demonstrated in criminal proceedings.’
A victim impact statement from Mr Pemberton’s partner, Cheryl, from Birmingham, said: ‘I just sit and wait for him to come home every day and I am broken-hearted.’
