Sleeping policemen

THE reason for the dearth of coppers on the beat (Mail) is the abandonment of proactive policing — the fundamental principles of prevention and detection of crime and the protection of life and property.

It’s extraordinary that victims of minor crimes are simply given a crime number for insurance claim purposes. As a retired officer, I am embarrassed to hear criticism of today’s police.
