Monumental error

-

EVERY person who commits an offence deserves a second chance, especially if they have genuinely been rehabilitated.

However, as a retired police officer, I have seen sentences imposed by the courts reduced, putting the public at risk and sending out the wrong signal to deter further offences. The case of John Worboys is an example where an indefinite sentence should mean he is never released. The Parole Board has made a monumental mistake.

RAY WOOTTEN, Grantham, Lincs. YET another perverse decision by our legal system, which favours the rights of criminals above the wellbeing and protection of the public, while showing no respect for victims.

The Parole Board should be held responsible if any further crimes are committed by a released prisoner. This might give the public more faith in our tainted legal system. DAVID C. ROBERTSON,

Lancing, W. Sussex.
