. . . but Lidl is creating 1,000 jobs at giant warehouse

-

LIDL has revealed plans to open a 1m sq ft warehouse in further evidence of its growing threat to the Big Four supermarkets.

The warehouse, which is the German discounter’s 16th in the UK, will be more than double the size of any of its other warehouses and is equivalent to around eight football pitches.

Up to 1,000 jobs will be created through the distribution centre, to be built in Luton. It is part of Lidl’s £1.4bn investment in the UK in 2017-18, with five stores planned for London in the next two months. Lidl and Aldi have been eating into the profits of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.
