- GRAHAM POLL the official line

We had to wait until the 87th minute before an incident which could have required the video referee system on its introduction to the english game last night.

Brighton’s winning goal raised questions about a possible handball. I don’t think the ball hit Glenn Murray’s arm on its way into the net and the replays proved that. oK, the video referee didn’t look at the key angle which showed it wasn’t a handball, but what matters is that the experiment worked. The lack of use of the video referee in the game accurately reflected what the system is about. It is only used if absolutely necessary and if a decision is obviously incorrect.

We must always try to maintain the on-field referee’s integrity.
