‘No chance’ of Farage coming back
THERE is ‘no chance’ he will return as Ukip leader, Nigel Farage said last night.
The 3-year-old dismissed rumours of a comeback as he insisted he had no desire to go back to his old job.
His assertion came as former Ukip deputy leader David Campbell Bannerman, who is now a Tory MEP, sparked speculation of a return.
Yesterday Ukip chairman Paul Oakden suggested troubled leader Henry Bolton
would come to a decision imminently on whether to resign.
Mr Campbell Bannerman tweeted in response: ‘I think Ukip chairman’s comments, together with Nigel Farage identifying a new role for pro-Brexit campaign organisation suggests he’ll be back as Ukip leader shortly.’
However, a spokesman for Mr Farage
told the Daily Mail there was ‘no chance’. Last week he caused controversy when he suggested he could support a second EU referendum, but he backtracked on his comments hours later.
The MEP has served as Ukip leader three times: from 2006 to 2009, from 2010 until September 2016, and after successor Diane James stepped down after just 18 days, he returned for two months as acting leader.
