Shh! What’s the easiest way to get rid of my stretch marks?
Anti-agers no one but you need know about
QI AM in my 50s and have 25- year- old stretch marks across my stomach. They are grey, but seem to become more visible as I get older. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them?
ASTRETCH marks are torn skin tissue that doesn’t properly regenerate, making the lines look more pronounced as time goes on. Clinical treatments can reduce, but never remove, old stretch marks, so you’ll need to consider whether they’re worth the cost.
Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh, of the Sebagh Clinic in London, likes the combination of microneedling and radiofrequency known as Intracel. The microneedling punctures the deeper skin layers with tiny needles, at which point the radiofrequency causes a burn there.
The idea is to create damage in order to stimulate new collagen. You’ll probably need three treatments, which will cost around £2,000, depending on the clinic.
Debbie Thomas of London’s D. Thomas Clinic suggests microneedling, to smooth the mark, and fraxelated laser (which perforates skin on a slightly more superficial level) to help fade their colour over time.
To reduce the texture and size of big, crepey marks, she is also keen on the Enerjet. ‘It shoots air-pressured liquid through the skin, breaking down the damaged ( scar) tissue and forcing it to regenerate.’
Either option costs from £650 for two to three treatments.
