Muslims are living in fear, says hero imam

-

THE hero imam who stopped an angry crowd beating Darren Osborne said the attack had left Muslims living in fear.

Mohammed Mahmoud, 31, said worshippers were scared another far-Right extremist could use a vehicle as a weapon.

Mr Mahmoud, who was praised by police after stepping in as men grappled with the killer after the Finsbury Park attack, said: ‘Justice has been done. He has stood trial and answered for his crime and he will be punished accordingly.’

Asked what impact the attack had had, he added: ‘It left people wondering, would there be more? If a car can be turned into a weapon and cause multiple casualties in one go, in an instant, then could this be expected again in the future?’

Mr Mahmoud told how he urged the crowd to hand Osborne ‘unscathed’ to police, adding: ‘I shouted, “No one touch him.”

‘I told people to get back. It was a natural response.’

The imam said he flagged down a police van and Osborne was put in the back for his own safety as he blew a kiss to the crowd.
