Fox slaps down PM critics

-

WORLD leaders have more respect for Theresa May than some Tory MPs, Liam Fox said yesterday as he urged the party to support her.

The international trade secretary, who is travelling with Mrs May in China, said mutinous MPs should look at the way she is viewed on the world stage instead of plotting in the Commons tea room.

But there were also claims yesterday that a senior minister was close to resigning as part of a plan to topple the Prime Minister. Dr Fox said Mrs May was ‘absolutely’ the right person to lead Britain through the Brexit process.

During a round of media interviews in Beijing, he said: ‘I will give full support to the Prime Minister as long as she wants to lead my party.’

It comes as an unnamed senior minister is reportedly preparing to resign and issue a call for a new direction for the party in a speech from the Commons backbenches, according to The Sun.
