Why Charmer Havers finds it easy to be a cad

-

EIGHTIES heart-throb Nigel Havers, star of The Charmer, played cads and conmen in a succession of TV dramas.

And the thrice-married actor admits there is little difference between him and his on-screen lothario image.

‘I do enjoy those characters, because you’re playing two people — the smooth, charming man who’s also a villain,’ he says. Asked how much clear blue water there is between him and his fictional alter egos, he says: ‘Not much. There’s a cigarette paper between the characters and me.’

Havers, 66, had several affairs while married to first wife Carolyn Cox, including one with actress Polly Williams, whom he later married.

Could he have been better behaved? ‘Yes, I suppose I could have been,’ he admits.
