WHAT HAS HE GOT?

THE striker gained some early-season admirers as he led the line for Preston. I thought he may move in the window but when I saw him recently I would not have predicted a switch to the Premier League for him and certainly not for £9million. His goals have dried up a little but his qualities were always going to make him a target for clubs. One of his strengths is being able to keep the ball when his team clears under pressure. He gives his colleagues the chance to support. He has an eye for goal and is not afraid to miss or take criticism for failing. He is single-minded and when he tried a spectacular swivel kick that narrowly missed the target he showed immediate frustration. He cannot be ignored. He has adjusted to a higher level after leaving Port Vale and we will see if he can go up another gear.
