BLOW FOR NEVILLE AS KEEPER CRASH LANDS

-

PHIL NEVILLE will probably be without his best goalkeeper when he takes charge of his first England match next month after Karen Bardsley injured a shoulder playing for Manchester City at Chelsea. The new England manager looked on as Bardsley landed awkwardly following a collision with Chelsea’s Drew Spence in the second minute. Bardsley, 33, required almost 10 minutes of medical attention before being carried off on a stretcher. The injury will surely rule her out of the SheBelieves Cup matches against France, Germany and the United States next month. The injury overshadowed a top-of-the-table fixture that ended goalless, preserving City’s two-point lead at the top of the Women’s Super League. In a further worry for Neville, Steph Houghton limped off with 15 minutes left. England midfielder Spence almost won it for Chelsea but Bardsley’s replacement, 18-year-old Ellie Roebuck, saved well.
