Undemocratic Lords
WITH the attempt by the House of Lords to prevent the will of the people being implemented with regard to Brexit, surely we have come to the point where we have to question the very existence of this institution.
The Lords has nothing to do with democracy. They are not elected and they represent no one except themselves, their egos and, it appears, their expense claims.
In days gone by the second chamber consisted of peers of the realm who had served the country, but today’s mixed bag of personalities makes the whole thing meaningless.
Why is there no retirement age? Surely they can find somewhere else for their afternoon nap! It has just become a cosy pensioners’ club.
