ISN’T he the most preposterous hypocrite alive today? In a jaw- droppingly disingenuous blast at EU officials, Sir Nick Clegg accuses them of fuelling Brexit with their ‘sneering disregard for the politics of identity and patriotism’, while condemning the architects of the borders-free Schengen zone as ‘shockingly naive’.
Can this be the same Sir Nick who once sneered at Britain’s ‘misplaced sense of superiority’ over defeating the Nazis?
The Mail welcomes this devious arch-Remoaner’s belated acknowledgement that love of country is one of the most deep-seated human instincts.
But since sneering at patriotism is written into the EU’s DNA (and, we strongly suspect, Sir Nick’s), will he now follow his logic – and stop plotting with the champions of the customs union to sabotage Brexit?
