Boss fined over pension dodge

A COMPANY boss and his firm have been fined more than £31,000 after he admitted deliberate­ly avoiding enrolling staff on workplace pension schemes.

Alan Stott’s bus company had failed to register 36 members of staff. Since 2012 all employers must put staff into a pension scheme and pay minimum contributi­ons.

Those who don’t face an unlimited fine or prison.

Stott, who runs Stotts Tours in oldham, Greater manchester, admitted 16 offences of wilfully failing to comply with the law on workplace pensions.

He was fined £4,455 and Stotts Tours was fined £27,000. The firm also faces court costs of £7,400, £14,000 in civil fines for non-compliance and a backlog of employer pension contributi­ons of £10,000.
