A GIRL of eleven died yesterday after she was stabbed while staying at her grandmother’s house.

Police were called at around 1am after neighbours were alerted by the elderly woman banging on their doors screaming for help.

Jasmine Forrester was found at the house in Wolverhampton with multiple injuries, including a head wound. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but later died.

her grandmother, 79- year- old Victoria Forrester, was taken to hospital for treatment to a dislocated shoulder.

A 51-year-old man – believed to be a relative of Jasmine’s – has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A family member said last night: ‘We are just shocked and devastated that this has happened.’ Police confirmed the suspect was related to the victim and that they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

Neighbour Gilda Chambers, 63, said Mrs Forrester desperately banged on their door in the early hours of yesterday morning after the alleged attack. She said: ‘It was about 1am when we heard the banging on the door. My son Jason went and answered it. She was shouting and asking for help.

‘She was clearly very shocked, and she had an injury to her shoulder. It wasn’t bleeding or nothing, but she was in a lot of pain.

‘She was only wearing a dressing gown, it looked like she had come out of bed. We tried to calm her down and phoned the police and an ambulance, who took her away. She lives there by herself, because her husband died a few years ago. I have seen the granddaughter a few times, she is very sweet and always waves. I don’t think she [Jasmine] lives there, but she comes to visit quite a lot.’

Natu Patel, 67, a local shopkeeper said: ‘I would see Jasmine every day, she was like a daughter to me. She loved coming in to see us and would make us things, little pictures to keep in the shop. I just can’t believe it.’

Another neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous, added: ‘The family are very religious and go to church every Sunday. I would never expect this to happen to them as they seem so normal. It’s really shocking to know this has happened, especially on our road, nothing really happens here.’
