eight venues for the city-based Twenty20 tournament starting in 2020 are due to be named by the ECB today. Seven of them are expected to be Test venues Lord’s, The Oval, Trent Bridge, Edgbaston, Old Trafford, The Ageas Bowl and Headingley. But the eighth choice will cause controversy. If it is Cardiff, then the ECB are ignoring Taunton and Bristol, who attract bigger crowds. But if the three grounds share the fixtures, then a Welsh team name would not work.
