Why no curves? Models’ Fashion Week protest

- By Susie Coen Showbusiness Reporter

PROUDLY showing off their curves, these women marked the start of London Fashion Week yesterday by protesting at its use of skinny models.

Led by Baywatch star David Hasselhoff’s daughter Hayley, the eight plus-size models and bloggers braved the cold weather in The Strand, Central London, wearing lingerie and high heels. They carried placards with slogans proclaiming: ‘LFW – where are the curves?’

US actress Miss Hasselhoff, 25, who is a size 18, dressed in a plunging lace black bodysuit with a matching silk robe for the protest, organised by plus-size clothing company Simply Be. She criticised fashion houses for predominantly using size 4 models to showcase their collections, and says women must appreciate their curves and ‘love our bodies for all that they are’.

Last year two luxury fashion companies pledged to stop using size 4 models – known as size zero in the US – on their catwalks and photoshoots. LVMH and Kering, who between them own Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Dior, introduced the code ‘to ensure the wellbeing of models’. But most luxury brands still choose to use skinny models.
