Brexit boost as Mulberry says English roots are key to success
MULBERRY last night pledged to continue making its leather goods in Somerset in a vote of confidence for Brexit Britain.
Speaking ahead of the launch of its latest collection at London Fashion Week, the luxury fashion house’s chief executive Thierry Andretta said it was keen to keep investing in its British heritage after the UK leaves the EU.
The designer, which makes 50pc of its leather goods in British factories and has sold a range of handbags created by supermodel Cara Delevingne ( pictured), is the largest manufacturer of luxury goods in the UK and employs 600 at its two factories The Rookery and The Willows in Somerset.
‘Our British roots remain a point of distinction, and are the foundation which Mulberry is built upon,’ said Andretta.
‘As the largest luxury leather goods manufacturer in the UK, we remain committed to our Made in England strategy. We continue to invest in our Somerset factories, which produce approximately 50pc of our handbags.’
Mulberry launched its first ‘see now buy now’ collection yesterday at London Fashion Week, giving customers the opportunity to buy bags and coats from the range online immediately after the catwalk show.
