Player Ratings
JACK GAUGHAN at Wembley Stadium
ARSENAL 7. (3-4-2-1) TEAM AVERAGE .2
DAVID OSPINA 5 Bag of nerves in goal. Distribution was poor and does not command his box at all.
CALUM CHAMBERS 6 A few decent blocks and generally held his own until the match got away from them.
SHKODRAN MUSTAFI 4 Embarrassed by Sergio Aguero’s opener, barged off a routine long ball far too easily.
LAURENT KOSCIELNY Often the spare man for Arsenal but couldn’t gain possession quickly enough to hurt City.
HECTOR BELLERIN 6 More worried about Leroy Sane than flying forward and that caught up with him later.
AARON RAMSEY Over-run in midfield by the time City went two up and Ramsey was fairly one-paced all afternoon.
GRANIT XHAKA 4. Wooden in the engine room. Spurned the opportunity to take final by the scruff of the neck.
NACHO MONREAL Didn’t seem in tune with Jack Wilshere before his afternoon was cut short with a back problem.
MESUT OZIL Poor in a big game yet again. Faded further and further from the action as the game went on.
JACK WILSHERE 6. The brightest spark for the Gunners, particularly off the left. Drifted into dangerous pockets.
P-E AUBAMEYANG . Barely caused Vincent Kompany a problem and missed a huge early chance from close range.
SUBSTITUTES Kolasinac 5.5 (for Monreal 26), Welbeck 6 (for Chambers 65), Iwobi 6 (for Ramsey 73). Not used: Cech, Elneny, Mertesacker, Maitland-Niles.
ARSENE WENGER Did Arsenal want this enough? It didn’t look it and they gave up at 2-0.
MAN CITY 78. (4-3-3) TEAM AVERAGE 7.1
CLAUDIO BRAVO 6. An assist from a goal-kick and a huge save from Aubameyang. Almost gave away an equaliser.
KYLE WALKER 6. Rampaged down right more after the break. Couple of hairy moments but nothing major. ★
VINCENT KOMPANY 8.5 Rolled back the years. Colossal performance in taming Aubameyang and clever finish for his goal.
NICOLAS OTAMENDI 7 Good at winning his first balls and aggressive in taking the game to Arsenal from the back.
DANILO 7 Nice ball for David Silva’s goal and contributed towards Arsenal having little joy down his flank.
FERNANDINHO 6 Unusually game passed him by a little before being forced off with a hamstring injury.
ILKAY GUNDOGAN 6. Neat and tidy on the ball and recycled possession well as City turned the screw in the second half.
DAVID SILVA 8 Broke from midfield and drove at Arsenal’s back three with purpose. Stunning third goal.
KEVIN DE BRUYNE 7 Quieter than normal but one piece of ingenuity at a corner helped settle this final.
SERGIO AGUERO 8 Took his goal beautifully, an exquisite lob over Ospina. Just one more for 200 at City now.
LEROY SANE 7. A real livewire once this match opened up and his threat was as damaging as any final ball.
SUBSTITUTES B Silva (for Fernandinho 78), Jesus (for Sane 77), Foden (for Aguero 89). Not used: Ederson, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko.
PEP GUARDIOLA 8 Stuck to principles with yellow ribbon and won first trophy in England.
