Is it wrong that women women are are working working longer? longer?

-

I’M SURPRISED that some women are complaining they are having to work longer to qualify for their state pension (Mail). I thought we wanted equality with men. We should retire at the same age.

Mrs L. QUINN, Holsworthy, Devon. I STARTED work at 14 and some years later was advised it would be of benefit to me to pay a married woman’s stamp. Oh dear! I now get a much smaller state pension of just £71 a week. I am still working at nearly 70 and can’t afford to stop. Unfortunately, there are many women in the same boat.

VAL UNWIN, Sheffield.

THE headline ‘Millions Of Women Forced To Work Till They Drop’ (Mail) equally affects men. Why the dramatic female bias? The equalisation of pensions this year is long overdue. Men have been treated as inferior to women since the state pension was introduced. It’s taken over half a century for this injustice to be rectified.

IAN BENTLEY, Pudsey, W. Yorks. FEMINISM brought more women into work and equality with men, including the pension age. So surprise, we have more women working to 65 or over. Ladies, you got what you demanded. Or maybe you didn’t really want full equality?

JOHN SMITH, Warrington, Cheshire.

HOW dare employment minister Alok Sharma patronise women? We do not wish to be told ‘staying in work longer is better for our physical and mental wellbeing’. An honest ‘you are having to keep working because we cannot afford your pensions’ would be better. Mr Sharma needs to get out and meet women who have had their life plans torn up by a five-year increase in their state pension age.

MARY FARRELL, Norwich.
