STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

IF I name a solicitor as executor of my will, how can I be sure they’ll do as I ask after I die? I’ve no near relatives, just a few cousins scattered far and wide. P. C., Cornwall.

AnYone appointed executor of a will — regardless of whether they are a solicitor — has a legal duty to distribute the estate of the deceased in accordance with their wishes.

A regulated, independent solicitor who won’t benefit from your will should be free of any bias. You could appoint a friend as a co-executor to oversee the solicitor’s work.

Consider writing a letter to those affected by your will, explaining your decisions. Ask for it to be distributed after you die.

I READ an article about rip-off charges for booking seats on flights that mentioned ‘TUI’. What does it stand for? P. M., by email.

TuI is the company behind Thomson and first Choice. The Thomson brand was retired in october last year — all stores, planes and its website have now been rebranded as TuI.

I UNDERSTAND everyone should have a workplace pension, but my employer refuses. Who can I contact for help? L. L., Barnet, North London.

BY LAw, all firms must enrol workers over age 22 and earning more than £10,000 a year into a pension. Contact industry watchdog The Pensions Regulator if your employer is not complying with these rules.

You can call 0345 600 7060 or fill in a form online — visit thepensionsregulator.gov.uk and select ‘ individuals’, followed by ‘whistleblowing and other concerns’.

I’VE been trying to claim compensation for a three-hour flight delay that occurred last year when travelling from Malaga to London Southend Airport.

EasyJet refuses to pay, claiming the delay was a result of bad weather. I don’t think this is true, as staff gave a different reason at the time. What do I do next? J. R., Essex.

eASYJeT should have sent you a final rejection letter that explains how you can refer your case to an independent dispute service. It is signed up to a scheme called CeDR. You can complain online at

cedr.com, where you’ll be asked to explain what happened and provide any evidence such as boarding passes.

or you can request a paper form by calling 020 7536 6099.

There is a £25 fee, but this will be refunded if you are successful. You should get a final response within 90 days.
