Trump aide quits after admitting: I told white lies
DONALD Trump’s communications chief dramatically resigned last night – just a day after admitting she told ‘white lies’ on his behalf.
Hope Hicks, 29, a former model who joined Mr Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign with no political experience, had looked uncomfortable in the spotlight in recent weeks.
On Tuesday, she spent nine hours testifying to the House Intelligence Committee as it grilled her about the President’s connections with Russians.
She admitted that in her job as his spokesman she sometimes had to tell white lies. However, after long consultations with her lawyers, she insisted she had never lied about anything connected to the investigation into alleged Trump campaign collusion with Russia to meddle in the presidential election.
Miss Hicks made headlines again recently when two exwives of her then boyfriend Rob Porter accused him of physical abuse. Mr Porter lost his job as Mr Trump’s staff secretary.
Miss Hicks would not say last night what her next job would be or specify exactly when she would leave.
She said she had ‘no words’ to express her gratitude to Mr Trump, who propelled her to fame after he asked her to stop doing PR for his property business and start working on his political image.
Mr Trump, who nicknamed her ‘Hopester’ and had reportedly treated her like a surrogate daughter, said: ‘Hope is outstanding and has done great work for the last three years. She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person.’
He added: ‘I will miss having her by my side.’
