Graduate sues over ‘Mickey Mouse’ business degree
A GRADUATE with a first-class degree is suing her former university for £60,000, accusing it of having deceived her about future job opportunities.
Pok Wong, 29, is taking Anglia Ruskin University to court for damages to cover the tuition fees and living costs for what she said was a ‘Mickey Mouse’ degree in international business strategy.
She claims that in its prospectus, the university made misleading boasts about the quality of teaching and career prospects.
She also says she was ‘forcibly removed’ from the stage during her graduation ceremony for protesting about the quality of the two-year course. In documents lodged at London County Court, Miss Wong, who is from Hong Kong but lives in London, said: ‘Since graduating... it has been proven that the degree... does not play a role to help secure a rewarding job with prospects.’
She also claims one lecturer arrived late for lessons, finished early and told students to ‘selfstudy’ at the university’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School in Cambridge.
She told The Sunday Telegraph: ‘The prospectus convinced me the university was really impressive. But as soon as I started in 2011, I realised there were failings.’
