Foden and Sancho axed
ENGLAND’S Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho were axed from the Under 19s’ win over Latvia for being late. Foden and Sancho were both unused substitutes as Paul Simpson’s side defeated Latvia 3-0 in the elite qualifying round for this summer’s European Championship finals on Saturday. Given that the pair are widely recognised as being two of this country’s best emerging talents, their omission came as a shock. But the decision is understood to have been a punishment for arriving late to a training session. Foden, who has made significant strides under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, played a key role in England Under 17s’ World Cup triumph last year. The 17-year-old has made eight senior appearances for City. Having left City for Borussia Dortmund last August, attacker Sancho, 18, has made six first-team appearances for the Bundesliga club this season.
