On-the-spot litter fines jump to £150
FINES for dropping litter are to be raised to £150.
The new maximum on-thespot fine, up from £80, is intended to deter litter louts who blight neighbourhoods.
And for the first time, the fines will apply to car drivers and passengers who throw cigarette ends, drink containers or food wrappers from windows.
Environment minister Therese Coffey said: ‘These new fines will tackle antisocial behaviour by hitting litter louts in the pocket, whether it is litter that is thrown from a vehicle or dropped in the street.’
