iF YOU hope to set up a gardening firm, there are plenty of franchises to help out.
this is what edinburgh-based David hughson found when he swapped the world of finance for a Jim’s mowing franchise, providing lawn and garden maintenance services.
‘After many years of looking after billion-pound investment funds, i wanted a complete change of career as my own boss that offered outdoor, physical activity,’ says David (pictured right).
the 59- year- old was attracted by the proven business model and structure a franchise offered.
‘i wanted a more informal, relaxed and enjoyable approach to work. i also wanted a business where i could increase its value through my own hard work.’
he finally settled on Jim’s mowing, which provided practical garden maintenance and business training.
‘my franchisor handled all the initial marketing to help generate me a steady flow of new clients,’ says David, who had two full-time employees within five years.
