Trapped! Man locked in toilet overnight

-

A MAN was stuck in a public toilet overnight after a security guard accidentally locked him in.

Paul Wilson had been for a late-night bicycle ride along the beach when he used the toilet – only to find that, when he went to leave, the front door had been locked. The 21-year-old said his mobile phone had run out of battery so he had to wait six hours until the toilet was opened in the morning.

He said: ‘I was scared and started really panicking, kicking the door.’

The local authority said the toilets at Sunny Sands in Folkestone, Kent, should have been locked at 10pm but were left open until 1.30am. A spokesman for Folkestone and Hythe District Council said: ‘The procedure before locking the toilets is to open and check all cubicles. This clearly did not happen in this instance.’

Right Guard Security, which is responsible for locking the toilets, apologised for ‘any distress and anxiety’ caused.
