I ask only because The Grand Tour presenter, who was sacked by the BBC after thumping a Top Gear producer because he had the audacity to serve him a cold supper, claims to have spent his 58th birthday dining alone.

‘My Birthday Party,’ wrote Clarkson sorrowfully, next to this snap of him slurping a glass of rose at a table laid for one.

He has been filming in the Scottish Highlands.

Surely his girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, will have a birthday treat for him upon his return?
