Burglars on the doorstep
BURGLARS don’t always break into your home in the middle of the night. Increasingly they are posing as cowboy builders or carry out distraction burglaries.
The average victim of a distraction burglary is female, frail, living alone and aged over 75.
At the very least the victim is left traumatised; they could end up with broken bones or worse.
Anyone who preys on the elderly and vulnerable does not share the values of our caring society.
Those who select victims who are unlikely to be able to resist are particularly loathsome.
I have been approached several times by cowboy builders offering to clear out my garage, top my pine trees or tar over my block paving.
Each time I have politely refused their ever- reducing quotes. My polite, but firm, refusal has been met with verbal aggression.
Thankfully, a phone call to the police was met with a rapid response. unfortunately, the ‘workman’ was long gone, presumably to try to peddle his ‘trade’ elsewhere.
like most reasonable people, following the death of the burglar who targeted a pensioner and his wife with dementia, I really can’t mourn the passing of someone with
such perverted values. My sympathies lie solely with the intended victims.
