Hold the horses

-

G. P. HOBLYN defends the Grand national (letters), but he has a rosetinted view of the racing industry.

As well as the deaths of horses on race courses, the sight of these animals being beaten to win a gruelling race is unacceptable. The winners of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Irish Grand national were fined for excessive use of the whip.

What about the losing racehorses that end up being exported live for the meat trade? I am sad to say racing is a dirty business.

Name supplied, Newmarket, Suffolk.
