THE SET-UP: A beautiful Georgian townhouse near Harley street is an unlikely venue for a supergym, but the Clock, a more select sister gym of the Library in notting Hill, is buzzing.

THE KIT: the wood-panelled front room hosts two Heath-Robinson machines made from curved tubes of copper-coloured metal — multigyms as reimagined by acolytes of the British designer tom Dixon.

THE TRAINING: supervised highintens­ity weight-training; there is always a trainer on duty, managing at most four clients. each session is done within 20 minutes. Yoga, boxing, barre and stretch classes are conducted in the elegant drawing room, beside the grand piano.

THE CROWD: Workaholic­s — the most frequent job descriptio­n is ‘ Ceo’, though there’s a smattering of yummy mummies. spill the beans on celebrity clients and you risk having your membership revoked.

SPECIAL ATTRACTION­S: the 12- day programme: work out every day, following their high-fat diet, and you can lose up to 6lb of fat while gaining muscle. Book breakfast or lunch on arrival and by the time you’ve showered and reapplied your make-up, the chef, Michael, will have it ready.

THE COST: £600 for one month, £595 for the 12-day programme.

TAKE-HOME MOVE: squats, to work the legs and bottom. stand with feet apart, arms in front. With chest up, bend the knees to lower into a deep squat taking your bottom almost to the floor. Push back up by straighten­ing the legs, then lower. Do as many as possible in 60 seconds.
