1,000 Jews call for Corbyn to face probe on anti-Semitism
MORE than 1,000 members of the Jewish community have called on Labour to investigate Jeremy Corbyn over anti-Semitism.
A list of fresh signatories to a previous complaint from the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism is believed to have been delivered to party HQ yesterday.
In a letter the signatories say Mr Corbyn has brought Labour into disrepute, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The letter states: ‘ Under Jeremy Corbyn, Labour has become a safe haven for racists. He is at home amongst them, having spent his political career seeking out and giving succour to Holocaust deniers, genocidal antisemitic terrorist groups and a litany of Jew-haters.
‘Labour must lead by example and show that Jeremy Corbyn is bound by the same rules as leader as he was as a backbencher.’
The charity is considering legal action if Labour refuses to investigate.
Shami Chakrabarti yesterday admitted her own report into Labour’s antiSemitism crisis had still not been fully implemented as the party faced a string of fresh allegations.
Despite being in the shadow cabinet, Baroness Chakrabarti, pictured, implied she did not have the ‘resources’ to drive through the reforms she recommended in 2016. She conceded there was still a ‘serious problem’ nearly two years after the report urged action to address an ‘occasionally toxic atmosphere’.
Her investigation concluded Labour was ‘not overrun’ by anti-Semitism or other forms of racism but did make a number of recommendations. It said the party should confront clear evidence of ‘ignorant attitudes’ among some members.
The report was dismissed as a ‘ whitewash’. Jeremy Corbyn has since given her a peerage and made her shadow attorney general. Yesterday, fresh allegations of anti-Semitism were made against local election candidates selected by Labour for next month’s poll.
