Call of the West!

-

CORNWALL and Devon deliver holiday joy by the bucket and spadeload — whether you want to breathe in salty sea air, visit subtropical gardens or share your scones with a seagull.

Summer comes early in the far West, from early May, when locals and visitors alike hit the coast paths, gardens and beaches, jumping in the swell and stretching their bare legs long before the rest of the country.

There are some great deals around, so come on down, and fast-track summer!

IF YOU were creating the perfect holiday haven, you’d probably come up with Cornwall, recent winner of the Best UK Holiday County at the British Travel Awards for the ninth year running.

This multi-faceted, seductive corner of England is home to many ancient monuments, quaint fishing villages, smugglers’ inns and more than 70 fabulous gardens, not to mention 300 fine beaches dotted along a coastline with epic panoramas.

Poldark fans looking forward to the new series, due to air in early summer and featuring characters based on real 18thcentury people, can find their way around locations with the help of an Experience Poldark app, from Visit Cornwall.

And towards the south-east coast, the Eden Project, St Austell, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, winner of Best UK Leisure Attraction at the British Travel Awards, are fantastic places to visit.

Base yourself at the lovely Tremaine Green Cottages, near Pelynt between Looe and Polperro.
